Nicky Romero 'Could Be the One'

Nicky Romero is a DJ and music producer from the Netherlands who has been making music since the mid-2000s. He also owns the record company Protocol Recordings, which helps new DJs and producers release their own albums. He's known for making melody-rich rhythms redolent with emotional vocals. Nicky Romero is one of the fastest-rising acts in electronic dance music, a genre that continues to gain increasing popularity across Europe and North America. He was granted a residency at the Las Vegas mega-club Light and also tours the States and around Europe in between recording sessions. Nicky Romero is headlining the Pier of Fear Festival in New York City with Adventure Club this year. Singer

Romero's full name is Nick Rotteveel van Gotum, but he chose the stage name Nicky Romero because it's easier to pronounce. He was born and raised in the Netherlands and spent a little time in Ontario, Canada before returning to his home where he worked as a bartender. Romero started playing music at a young age, but his first foray into the music business was actually as a producer. He started playing the snare drum when he was 6 years old and quickly acquired a taste and a talent for beats and rhythms.

Breakthrough

Romero was signed to his first label, Once Records, in the early 2000s and released the track "Funktion One" in 2008. In 2010, Romero created "My Friend," which sampled Groove Armada and the DJ's career took off. The track landed the No. 1 spot on the Beatport's worldwide chart, solidifying Nicky Romero's name in the electronic dance world.

Hit Albums

Romero's first big hit was "Toulouse" in 2012, which quickly climbed up to the Beatport Top Ten. "I Could Be the One," also released in 2012, was a huge success in the U.K. and debuted at the No. 1 spot on the U.K. Singles chart in 2013. The track was certified 2x platinum in Australia; gold in Belgium, New Zealand, the U.K. and Italy; and platinum in Venezuela. His next release, "Legacy," also grabbed the No. 1 position. The following year, MTV EMA nominated Romero for the Best Dutch Act. In 2014, Romero released two new tracks, "Feet on the Ground" and "Let Me Feel."
